Party time, excellent!

Last Friday, we had a birthday party for our friend Ryan at our house.  It was a great party, thanks to Cassie for putting it together!
We like games.

MetroZone!

Some of you may know I've been spending a lot of my evenings and weekends working on a side project game w/ some friends from work. We've been building a submission for the xbox live/xna Dream, Build, Play 2008 competition. They're mostly all programmers, so they were in need of some more art support this year. Basically, it's putting together a demo level as a 'proof of concept' for a full xboxlive game. I think we did a great job, considering the game was thrown together in about 6 weeks by 3 programer, 3 artists, and one designer. We built our own level editor, particle editor, glass shader, and sound engine. Models were built in Maya and handpainted in photoshop, we used crazybump to generate the normal maps. I built the player's vehicle, 2 enemy types, 2 environment obstacles and co-built another enironment obstacle and the tube environment, as well as all the concept art (and had a lot of fun doing it, too).

The point of the game is to shoot enemies and collect power-ups to increase your score, while avoiding obstacles in your way. You also have the ability to 'flip' to the other side of the tube, to possibly escape enemies.

Sooooooo, now that I've completely bored most of you w/ all the details, here's a video of our submission:

Also, while I'm at it, I thought I'd post a link to another website/blog where I and a few friends post some sketches. We usually have a 'sketch-of-the-day' theme. These are all mostly done at work during our down time (waiting for programs to complile, projects in lockdown, really bored, etc.): ARTillery Room

Flower class update

My flower class is going so well!  I'm learning so many things.  Here's a hand tied bouquet in an armature.
This is the armature - you take curly willow stems and weave them into a nest and then use it as a base to build your bouquet in.  Brilliant!
And this is my Round Mound arrangement.  It's called that because it's round and massive.

Camping 08

Two weekends ago, we went camping with a bunch of our buddies up at Table Mountain (by Mountain High ski lifts and on the way to Barstow kind of.)  Great times were had by all!
Here's Ryan showing Megan something amazing.
The crew playing disk golf.  More fun than I expected, even though I only watched.
Seth, relaxing in our new camping chairs!
Aaaaahhh, relaxing by a campfire w/ friends is enjoyable.

Release the hounds!

As you may recall, our vegetable garden has recently been devoured by bugs.  Grrrrrr.  And since we'd like to eat the veggies we are growing, putting insecticide on our plants doesn't sound so good.  So, being the cunning human that I am, I bought a cup of lady bugs to eat them!  I'm letting nature takes it's course now, but if that doesn't work, I have some other tricks up my sleeve.
And, my worms have arrived for my vermiposter!  Poor little guys came stuffed in a box in the mail!  I think most of them survived and, thankfully, they procreate in a week.
Here's the box that they live in.  Not too big for our little yard.
Here's the first feeding I gave them of icky lettuce and mushroom stems.  They ate it all, so I must have done it right!  It's covered in paper shreds so that they don't have to come all the way out to eat.  They are like vampires and hate the light.  I tried to get a picture of them, but they were hating the flash on the camera and running away.  But they're in there!

I wish they all could be Nor-Cal girls

On Labor day weekend, we were supposed to go up to northern california to have the annual Cowboy Boot Hoot camp-out for our friend Jenny's birthday, but due to an unforseen scheduling problem, it was cancelled.  So, the nor-cal girls came south to see us!  It was a great weekend with veggie kabob barbeques, a rousing game of apples to apples, a shopping day in LA, improv comedy show, and a great Monday morning brunch at the Potholder.  Yeah!  Here's the girls (Patty, Kate, and Jenny) bbqing the kabobs and being merry.
Our game of Apples to Apples.  If you haven't played it, you're missing out!
Our evening out on the town.

And poor Seth, looking exhausted after a weekend with 4 girls in the house!  He had fun, really.
Thanks for coming down to see us in the LBC girls!  It was tons of fun!
